Help find biological parents of five-year-old

Have you seen my parents?: Richard holding a picture of himself as an 18- month-old toddler together with Chong at Wisma MCA.

KUALA LUMPUR: Five years have passed since Richard was abandoned to the care of a babysitter, but efforts to locate his biological parents remain futile.

The five-year-old, whose birth certificate shows only his first name “Richard”, date and place of birth and gender, was an 18-month-old toddler when he was brought to a babysitter identified only as Ah Moi in October 2008 by a man who claimed to be a friend of the boy's father.

The man, called Charlie, had promised Ah Moi RM400 to look after Richard for a week, but disappeared after that.

Richard has since been living under the care of the Ti-Ratana Welfare Society.

Appealing to members of the public to come forward with any information on Richard's parents, MCA Public Services and Complaints Services Department Datuk Seri Michael Chong said that identifying the biological parents would ease the process of finding adoptive parents for Richard.

“Right now, Richard is stateless and does not have an identity.

“However, if no one comes forward, we will proceed to arrange for him to be adopted with the approval of the Ti-Ratana home, which has acted as his guardian for the past five years,” he told reporters at Wisma MCA yesterday.

Richard, who was also present at the press conference, is a playful and cheeky boy.

However, when asked if he knew his last name or who his parents were, he could only answer softly, “I don't know”.

Anyone with any information on Richard's parents or their whereabouts can contact MCA Public Services and Complaints Services Department at 03-2203 3888.
