KUALA LUMPUR: A teacher alleged that he was kicked and punched by police after he and a group of Bersih 3.0 supporters left a hotel on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
Goh Ban Huat, 48, said that he was buying two bottles of water when police began spraying tear gas and water cannon at about 3pm on April 28.
“As a result, many of us ran into the hotel nearby but police rushed in and shouted, “Catch them, catch all of them,” he said at the Suhakam inquiry into the Bersih 3.0 rally.
Goh said he left the hotel and was kicked and punched and brought by police to Dataran Merdeka and later sent to the Jalan Semarak Police Training Centre (Pulapol) before being released.
He said he did not realise that he had a black and blue bruise on the left side of his abdomen until he went home that night.
Asked by Suhakam vice-chairman Datuk Dr Khaw Lake Tee if he had made a police report, Goh said “no”.
Asked by ACP Jamaludin Abdul Rahman if he had attended a rally against the law, Goh agreed.
Another witness, fast food outlet assistant manager Nasir Abdul Ghani, 39, said none of the customers were wearing the yellow Bersih T-shirt.
He said that police had entered the restaurant along Jalan Silang after they opened for business at 7pm and later left without detaining anyone.
Nasir said a policeman raised his voice at one of the customers but claimed that he did not hear the conversation or know the names of the officers.
